50% Surge in Post-Pandemic Pet Relocation Demand

New data from AltoVita shows that, since the pandemic, there has been a 50% increase in demand for pet relocation.

50% Increase in Moves with Pets

Booking data from AltoVita, a cloud-based global accommodation platform that delivers private and serviced apartments, villas and homes worldwide, has revealed a 50% increase in moves with pets since the pandemic, as many have acquired furry friends to keep them company during lockdown.

Types of Animal

In addition, 65% of pet travellers revealed that they would choose accommodation based on whether it is a good fit for their pet and that it would be their number one priority going forward. The data also revealed that many are looking to move more than just cats and dogs, with fish, ferrets and birds also recently relocated using the AltoVita portal.

Out of the dogs relocated, 13% were labrador, with 9% poodle and 9% also French bulldog. The biggest dog was an 80kg golden retriever and the smallest, a 2kg chihuahua which recently moved to Stockholm.

AltoVita’s platform provides duty of care compliant housing which enables employees and relocation companies to source vetted and verified furnished accommodation. As a result of the findings, AltoVita has created a new modular feature filter on its platform to simplify the search process for those looking to travel with their pets.

Pet-Friendly Housing

The need for pet-friendly housing was also reinforced during AltoVita’s Corporate Housing Innovation Summit, the first-ever event of its kind for the sector where more than 400 people from around the world gathered to future-proof the corporate housing sector in the 21st century. As a result of the Summit, AltoVita developed five new product features to serve the industry – including this tool for moving with pets.

Vivi Cahyadi Himmel, CEO and Co-Founder at AltoVita, commented: “The pandemic has sparked huge change in many areas – not least pet ownership. With more and more of us owning pets, it’s important that we can factor them into our lifestyles as we look past the pandemic. AltoVita’s approach is to ensure that we can all adapt seamlessly to post-pandemic change and it’s why we’ve altered our platform to better accommodate those looking to relocate with pets going forward.”

The AltoVita platform, which is supported by a 24/7/365 Guest Experience team, is designed to not only provide accommodation to fit specific needs, but saves costs and enhances client experience with a wide range of options across 800+ cities.

Himmel added: “Pets are part of the family for many people. In the same way that AltoVita helps travellers to find accommodation with childcare facilities, we are also taking huge steps to ensure that people can travel easily with their pets in tow. Our research marks the start of a pet jet setting revolution.”
