Challenger Bank bunq Plants Trees With Every Card Payment

Bunq enables users to become CO2 free in less than 2 years by introducing bunq SuperGreen. Following its recent successful bunq Green Card launch, bunq users together planted over 100,000 trees in just 4 months. According to a poll started on bunq’s online community, 81% of bunq users wish to plant trees with every card payment they make. As a result, bunq implemented their feedback to start planting one tree for every €100 euro spent with any bunq card. The European challenger bank aims to plant at least half a million trees before the end of the year.

Planting trees is one of the easiest ways to positively affect the environment. A tree produces clean air, reduces carbon, and provides shelter to wildlife. The trees planted by bunq in partnership with Eden Reforestation are the most cost-effective trees in the world according to The New York Times. They capture 308kg CO2 over their 25 average lifespan and, combined with bunq’s green subscriptions, take less than two years to offset users’ yearly carbon footprint.

Founder and CEO Ali Niknam says: “At bunq we want to make green easy. That’s why we’re the only bank in the world that enables you to become completely CO2 free in less than 2 years”. Both bunq Premium and bunq Business users can upgrade their subscription to bunq Premium SuperGreen and bunq Business SuperGreen to start planting trees for every card payment they make. Inside the app, they can keep track of the number of trees they planted in real-time.
