Meanwhile, these hidden links double as a modern version of the long-standing honeypot trick. When a crawler travels multiple levels into this artificial set of pages, operators can safely assume it is an automated tool and not an everyday visitor. This trick allows Cloudflare to detect such bots more easily, without giving them a hint of detection.
Why Was This Tool Created?
Website owners have struggled to keep out unknown crawlers that harvest information for robotic training. Old safety measures, such as the robots.txt file, used to work well when respected by search engines.
