Humane, a company started by former Apple employees, has created its first product – the AI Pin. This wearable device, priced at $699, brings the power of ChatGPT to your clothes. Scheduled to be available in the US from November 16, the AI Pin represents a significant step in personal consumer technology.
Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, the brains behind Humane, have designed the AI Pin to merge humans and AI. “Ai Pin is the embodiment of our vision to integrate AI into the fabric of daily life,” said Chaudhri. Bongiorno added, “We are rethinking, reconsidering, and remembering honest human connection in the context of computing.”
AI Pin: Features and Functionality
The AI Pin is a screenless device, smaller than a smartphone, with a laser-projected display. It can project smartphone-like interfaces onto any surface. The device uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip and comes with a variety of features like AI-powered optical recognition.
One of the main attractions of the AI Pin is its integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, making it an AI assistant that you can wear. It also includes features like a daily summary of emails, translation of languages, and even identifying the nutritional value of foods.
Additionally, the AI Pin boasts a camera with depth and motion sensors. It has a “personic speaker,” Bluetooth connectivity, and a touchpad for manual input. The “trust light” indicates when the device is recording audio or video.
The Cost of Innovation
The AI Pin costs $699, with an additional monthly charge of $24 for cellular data access and cloud storage. This subscription is necessary for making calls, sending texts and emails, and storing images or videos.
