Nozama’s Plastiks NFT Marketplace Joins Celo’s Climate Collective

Plastiks, a platform that connects producers and recyclers to enhance the value of recovered packaging and compensate plastic waste with NFT certificates, has joined the Climate Collective. Built on the carbon-neutral Celo protocol, the Collective is an expanding coalition of organisations, advocates, and projects dedicated to reversing the harmful effects of climate change through Web3 technology. Upon joining the Collective, the Plastiks marketplace will bridge to the Celo blockchain.

Plastiks will bring a new type of regenerative tokenised asset—Plastic Recycling Guarantees—to Celo, in addition to a vibrant NFT marketplace that supports a broad range of communities and use cases, including sports and entertainment. Notably, bridging to Celo’s carbon-neutral blockchain enhances Plastiks’ environmental benefits by helping to offset the carbon associated with its NFTs. Plastiks will also immediately begin collaborating with other like-minded Climate Collective members.

“Partnering with Celo is an important step for Plastiks that can help us reach our goal of enhancing the commercial value of recycled plastic and, ultimately, reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the environment,” said Andre Vanyi Robin, Founder and CEO, Nozama. “Access to Celo’s carbon-neutral blockchain and knowledge sharing with the Climate Collective’s broad range of environmentally focused collaborators will help us reach more companies and develop new ways to use NFTs in pursuit of a sustainable future.” Andre will participate in the NFT Creators panel at Celo Connect, Celo’s first global conference, on April 5, 2022, in Barcelona, Spain.

Plastiks launched in early 2022 as the world’s first utility NFT by Nozama, the London-based global sustainability technology company. Plastiks is a pioneer in the fight against global plastic contamination, incentivising a much-needed increase in the amount of plastic recovered for recycling. The Plastiks marketplace enables global recyclers to turn invoice data into NFTs.

Each NFT created uses data recorded on the blockchain to certify that a corresponding amount of plastic has been recovered, thus ensuring it doesn’t end up in the environment. Plastic producers, users, and recyclers, as well as NFT collectors, can then buy and sell these NFTs. These transactions create an additional revenue stream for recyclers from plastic that’s already been recovered, in addition to providing producers and users with an opportunity to make a meaningful investment in the recovery of single-use plastics (SUPs).

“We are excited to work with Plastiks to drive adoption and usage of its platform across the Celo ecosystem by composing Plastiks NFTs with other Celo products,” said Nirvaan Ranganathan, Program Manager, Climate Collective. “As a mission-aligned coalition, we support targeted collaborations between Climate Collective members and look forward to raising broader awareness about Plastiks’ impact.”
