Education technology companies, Sparx and HegartyMaths, have today announced that they are coming together with an ambition to increase their combined impact in the teaching and learning of maths. The new partnership brings together two of the UK’s most influential and groundbreaking education companies and is set to increase their joint reach and capability to over one million users in more than 1,300 schools. The new arrangement will mean that HegartyMaths will become part of the Sparx family.

Sparx and HegartyMaths are both award-winning companies offering maths education solutions for the K12 market. Sparx is an in-class and homework solution that uses personalised content and data analytics to allow teachers to focus on effective teaching rather than time-consuming administration. Since 2010, Sparx has been investing in school-based research to create a powerful solution that increases student engagement and accelerates progress.

HegartyMaths is an incredibly successful maths homework software solution, founded by Colin Hegarty, UK Teacher of the Year in 2014 and finalist in the Global Teacher Prize 2016. HegartyMaths is used in many UK schools and its focus on the science of teaching and learning maths aligns closely with Sparx’ values and approach.

Colin Hegarty will continue to lead and direct HegartyMaths but will also work closely with Sparx’ CEO, Dan Sandhu, as part of the leadership team for the whole organisation. Dan Sandhu will join the board of HegartyMaths.

Colin Hegarty, Founder HegartyMaths said:

“Joining forces with Sparx is a great opportunity to take HegartyMaths to the next level, allowing us to focus on increasing our impact, and I’m very excited to start this new chapter in our journey. Since launchinHegartyMaths in 2016 it has been challenging, at times, to service the incredible demand that we have experienced. Working with Sparx gives us valuable support and resource to do more to help maths teachers and, most importantly, learners.”

Dan Sandhu, CEO Sparx said:

“I have been consistently impressed with Colin Hegarty and his team’s teacher-led approach. Combining this with our own school-led research and insight expertise will enable us both to take a leap forward in helping transform maths education in the UK and globally. As socially focused education organisations we share the same values, and working together is an incredible opportunity to transform more lives around the world through maths education.”
