With the rising cost of energy and food, it’s no surprise that Brits are looking for savvy ways to cut down on their energy consumption.
And when it comes to home appliances, tumble dryers, ovens and kettles are the biggest offenders, according to a guide by Money Saving Expert, released early September.
Number one on the list is the tumble dryer, which is estimated to cost a huge £1.56 per hour to use. Next on the list was the oven, which costs £1.04 per hour to use, and third is the kettle, which costs 93p per hour.
Whilst a cheap clothes airer could help drop reliance on the tumble dryer, reducing the amount of time food spends in the oven can be slightly more complex.
However, a recent independent study commissioned by home appliances brand Instant Brands, has revealed that cooking in one of their Air Fryers or Pressure Cookers can save more than 80% energy and cost compared to an electric oven. That means that if the average oven costs £1.04 per hour to use, an Air Fryer costs just over 20p.
Not only that, but combined with time savings and higher energy efficiency (Instant Brand’s new Duo Crisp™ with Ultimate Lid is 70% faster than traditional cooking methods), the appliance is not only good for your wallet, it’s also good for the planet.

When it comes to other benefits, it’s estimated that on average cooks use 95% less cooking oil with Air Fryers than ovens, making it not only much healthier, but much cheaper to cook in.
This is especially important given the sharp price rise in cooking oils. Back in April 2022, Sunflower oil, a cooking staple in many households, cost more than it had done for the past 3 years.
The increase in price was driven by a variety of factors including the Russia/Ukraine war, supply chain issues from COVID-19 and changing environments from the climate crisis. Being able to use less to do more is always a real benefit when the cost of living is high.
But whilst the cost saving may be high once you start cooking, these types of appliances can be expensive to purchase.
However Instant Brands has just launched the brand-new Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid which contains 13 functions in 1 including an Air Fryer, Grill, Mini Oven, Roaster, Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Steamer and more.
This means that through one purchase, you can cook in a multitude of ways and save energy whilst doing so.
So, in a time when energy consumption and the cost of living is at the forefront of most households’ minds, it might be worth exploring which products can help you save money, time and the planet at home.
The Instant Brands Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid is now available from Instant Brands and Amazon for £229.99.
