About LoyaltyLion
LoyaltyLion is a data-driven loyalty and engagement platform, powering sustainable growth for over 10,000 ecommerce businesses around the world. It allows brands to create a loyalty program that goes beyond points and rewards, driving greater customer lifetime value and more cost-effective acquisition through better customer relationships.
LoyaltyLion lets its retail customers build effective loyalty programs that deliver personalised shopping experiences. The platform allows shoppers to earn points for any on-site activity – from purchases to reviews and referrals, as well as off-site actions such as social shares and follows. Points can be exchanged for vouchers, gift cards or custom rewards such as free products, shipping or charitable donations.
Not only that, programs can be designed to reflect each brand, and reward the behaviours that retailers want to inspire from their customers, whether that’s allowing them to redeem rewards in the form of planted trees or giving them points in return for recycling packaging.
Rewind ten years to 2012. Co-founders, Charlie and Dave, had just met and were right at the very start of their journey. They knew that whatever business they chose to build, they wanted to tackle a big problem and one that would likely get worse with time. After many conversations with experienced business owners, one key challenge kept coming up time and time again – how to engage and retain customers online.
Charlie and Dave had the foresight to recognise that this would only become more challenging as ecommerce boomed, and big players like Amazon continued trying to squeeze others out of the market.
To them the solution was obvious – the key to meeting this challenge lay in delivering excellent shopping experiences that would keep shoppers coming back to repeat purchase. But whilst the majority of ecommerce brands agreed with them, they also confessed that they did not have the tools, time or expertise to execute a retention strategy, even though they wanted to. That’s where LoyaltyLion was created to help.
LoyaltyLion became the first Shopify Plus technology partner and went on to secure additional investment from James Hart of ASOS. Since then, it has opened multiple offices, been included in the FT1000 fastest-growing companies, and continues to develop and improve the platform for its customers.
Over the past year, its team has grown beyond recognition. It has doubled in size and passed the 100-employee mark, recruiting in both the US and the UK. LoyaltyLion’s user base has also grown by 27% in the last 12 months.
LoyaltyLion has also broadened its scope, including servicing many merchants in sectors that have needed to adapt to more online-based operations in the post-pandemic world, particularly pets, wellness, beauty, food and beverages and subscription-based services.
Customers like Harringtons had to respond to an almost overnight boom in their industries, adapting to an enormous influx of new customers as pets and Zoom parties became the new normal. Other customers, such as Waterdrop, LIVELY and Astrid & Miyu, had to pivot to online-only and find new ways to support and connect with their loyal customer communities, which they have been able to successfully do with the help of LoyaltyLion.
