This week’s crowdfunding roundup is a good reminder that there’s no one single mould for a good startup. One is offering practical, neurodivergent-led tools for workplaces and schools alongside an equine rescue and rehabilitation project and a postnatal transition coaching service.
Neuroinclusion, animal welfare and maternity wellbeing are three very different causes with three very different business models, but the common thread is that these founders have all turned to crowdfunding in order to take the next step. It’s an eclectic lineup that always makes this read an interesting one because you never know which one is going to catch your eye.
So, who are the startups crowdfunding this week? Here they are.
1. HACIEN

How much are they raising: £343,008
Website: www.hacien.com
SEIS/EIS? Yes, EIS
About: HACIEN is pioneering premium, 100% agave flavoured tequila with the ambition of building an entirely new global category around it.
Historically, flavoured spirits have had a bit of a reputation problem and are generally associated with cheap, sugary liqueurs. HACIEN wants to change that, pairing the quality standard of a premium 100% agave tequila with carefully developed flavour profiles that respect the base spirit rather than mask it.

SEIS/EIS? N/A
About: Healthy Mama Mindset offers in-depth postnatal transition coaching and education to support new parents through the first twelve weeks of their baby’s life.

3. Not Yet

How much are they raising: £25,000
Website: N/A
SEIS/EIS? N/A
About: Not Yet is an equine rescue and rehabilitation project saving horses with behavioural issues from being euthanised and retraining them so they can find new homes.
Horses with behavioural problems often run out of options very quickly and can be difficult to rehome, costly to manage and in most cases, they’re euthanised because no one has the time, expertise or resources to work with them. Not Yet gives these horses the patient rehabilitation and skilled training that they need in order to be welcomed into loving homes and given a second chance.

4. PlastiCycle

How much are they raising: £20,000
Website: N/A
SEIS/EIS? N/A
About: PlastiCycle is turning London’s plastic waste into reusable resources, creating green jobs along the way and building a circular system the city needs.
London generates an enormous amount of plastic waste on a daily basis, but much of it still ends up in landfill or incineration despite the efforts of consumers to recycle properly. PlastiCycle is taking on the problem, keeping that waste in the local economy as a resource. The social aspect matters too with green jobs being a big part of the sustainability conversation and their business model puts those jobs where they’re needed.

5. All Minds Matter

How much are they raising: £11,000
Website: N/A
SEIS/EIS? N/A
About: All Minds Matter builds practical, neurodivergent-led tools designed to help workplaces and schools get neuroinclusion right.
While neuroinclusion is a topic that most forward-thinking organisations claim to care about, there’s usually quite a large gap between intention and impact. Many neurodivergent employees and students still find themselves navigating environments that weren’t built with them in mind. All Minds Matter offers tools designed by neurodivergent people themselves, focusing on what works as opposed to what looks good on paper.
