Urban Jungle is a fully digital insurance company for a new generation of customers. They use technology and data science to make it much easier for customers to get access to better suited, better value, easier to understand home insurance. Since 2016 they have crafted fair home insurance policies for what customers need and continue to stand against the bad habits of the incumbents like price walking, hidden fees and interest charges. Products can be purchased quickly and managed entirely online, making it easy for digitally native, busy young people to take care of their insurance, and get on with their lives.

They started with renters contents insurance, an area that, despite accounting for 40% of UK households, is traditionally viewed as ‘hard to serve’ and where one third of households are uninsured, leaving a vast number of people unable to cope with the financial shocks that life can throw at them. Since launching their own label product in February in 2019, they’ve 10x’d revenue. Then, in 2021 they launched their very own homeowners insurance product, offering the UK simple, clear and fair home insurance. To date they’ve helped more than 80,000 UK customers, many of whom have become advocates – they have over 3,500 5 star reviews on Trustpilot.

Having raised a Series A round in 2021, they’re looking to scale the UK home insurance to help even more customers, starting to look to their next markets and products, and quickly scaling the team to deliver all of this.

Helen joined the team in early 2019 when they had just a few thousand customers, and sits on the leadership team as Chief of Staff & Operations. She leads Strategy, Operations, People and Data & Analytics functions, as well as thinking broadly about how they do what they do and keeping their values of Customer First, Keep Getting Better, Be Responsible and Aim for Extraordinary at the forefront of how they operate.

Over the last 3 years, Helen has been the core of Urban Jungle and has grown the Operations and Strategy teams from one (her!) to 12 across the functions, as well as establishing processes for finding and developing high potential talent to support the business to grow and scale its culture to 45 people (and beyond!) and support their growing customer base. She has championed the business to become certified as a B-Corp (currently pending) as a commitment to a positive impact on the world around them, as well as set the organisational cadence and informed the strategy for customer-first growth to help us on our mission to make insurance fairer.
