AI coding startup Lovable is quickly becoming one of Europe’s hottest startups.
Founded in Stockholm just over 2 years ago, the platform has recently announced that it now has nearly 8 million users, up from 2.3 million in July. (TechCrunch).
What does it promise to do? Make app building accessible to everyone, even those that don’t know how to write a line of code
Who Is Lovable?
Lovable is a Swedish AI software company that is setting out to make coding as simple as telling a computer what you want.
The company was founded in late 2023 by Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin, and has quickly become one of Europe’s most exciting up and coming startups.
So, what does it do? Well Lovable’s software allows users to build apps and websites simply by describing what they want to create. Through text or audio inputs, Lovable’s AI creates everything you need – from front-end design to the back end logistics.
Since its inception, Lovable has grown as a record pace, becoming an AI unicorn with over 8 million users, $100 million in annual recurring revenue, and a $1.8 billion valuation in under a year.
But beyond the hype, Lovable really is spearheading something unique.
The Rise Of Vibe Coding
Lovable’s approach to building apps and websites is what some people refer to as ‘vibe coding‘. Instead of having to spend hours writing code, users describe what they want by text or voice and the platform’s AI gets to work, generating full apps in minutes.
This means even those who don’t know or understand coding are able to build applications they envision.
Lovable’s AI can do everything. From front-end design to back-end logistics. And with the cost of software engineers being so high, often more than startups can afford, it’s no surprise that Lovable is becoming so popular.

Lovable’s Growth
Lovable doesn’t just boast impressive tech, it is actually believed to be one of the fastest-growing software companies in history.
To date, Lovable has 8 million users (and counting), $100 ARR in just 8 months and an impressive 85% of users with day-30 retention – higher than even ChatGPT.
And investors are taking note. So far, Lovable has raised $228 million, including a $200 million Series A valuing the company at $1.8 billion. And according to the founders, it isn’t slowing down.
Where The Idea Came From
Before Lovable, co-founder Osika, who was an early employee at Sana Labs, created an open-source tool called GPT Engineer. GPT Engineer was a code-generation tool that worked much in the same way as Lovable’s tech.
After seeing how quickly it gained traction, Osika started to realise how big the opportunity was for people who had no idea how to code at all.
After quickly racing to build it before anyone else did, he and co-founder Fabrian Hedin managed to get it live within weeks, and the rest is history.
The Challenge Of Security
In a world where cyberattacks are becoming more common, Lovable has raced to keep on top of security issues.
After being described by Semafor as a ‘sitting duck for hackers’, Lovable raced to make its platform even safer. Speaking to TechCrunch, Osika said: “Our goal is to make building with Lovable more secure than human-written code.”
Europe’s Fastest-Growing Unicorn
Lovable’s journey has been more than just a normal rise, it has been a monumental growth-sprint, dictated by a real need for secure, easy and cheap code.
In fact, Lovable is making it easier for anyone to build an app or website, simply by helping them translate what they want into usable code.
So, has Lovable changed the world of coding forever? It looks like it, but whether it can keep up the momentum remains to be seen.
