World Asthma Day 2025: Startups To Help With Asthma

According to Asthma + Lung, 7.2 million people suffer from asthma in the UK – roughly 8% of the population.

In fact, statistics from the Scottish Public Health Observatory show that the highest asthma prevalence worldwide occurs in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Canada, and the US.

This makes it a huge market to take on.

As tomorrow is World Asthma Day, there’s no better time to shine a light on this disease and the companies helping to improve care within it.

What Causes Asthma?

There are a few different causes of asthma, according to the NHS website, some of these include:

  • Having a dust allergy or hay fever
  • Having a family history of allergies
  • Being born prematurely
  • Living in a polluted area
  • Lack of exercise
  • Mould or damp at home
  • Working in a place that exposes you to chemicals or dust

Whilst people can be pre-disposed to having asthma, there are quite a few environmental factors that make it worse. Knowing these, and avoiding them, is an important part of the treatment process.

Can Asthma Be Cured?

Whilst there is currently no cure for asthma, generally, patients are given the tools to manage it so they can live a normal and active life.

Devices like inhalers, which allow people to breathe in medicine, are just one example of this. However, some sufferers might need medicine if their symptoms are more severe.

Luckily, to help people suffering with asthma manage their symptoms, a few startups have emerged to support. Let’s take a look…

Findair

Findair has developed a smart inhaler that combines care and telemedicine.

The smart inhaler, when used, generates data around the person using it. This allows it to log important statistics to track the development and severity of the asthma.

This is then logged in the system, allowing doctors to provide more accurate consultations when called upon.

Nuvoair

Nuvoair is a telemedicine provider, giving asthma sufferers constant access to care. Once signed up, each user is given a health coach who helps work out their unique needs and goals. Through this, they are then able to build a care plan to suit them.

With easy to use devices and same day appointments available on the system, nuvoair helps people get the care they need, whenever they need.

hollo medical

Hollo Medical

hollo medical is redefining what inhaler chambers look like. Founded to help people suffering with chronic respiratory conditions, the company has developed holding chambers for breathing devices that can hold more medication than before.

This portability not only makes them easier to access, but more effective for patients – helping them get the assistance they need, whenever they need it.

Clin-e-cal

Clin-e-cal

Many people with asthma struggle to use their inhalers properly. Clin-e-cal makes it easier by gamifying it for children.

The startup uses their character, Rafi the robot, to guide them if they are using their inhaler wrong. This not only helps them get the help they need, but also makes it fun, encouraging them to master it themselves.

eBreathie

eBreathie makes it easier for patients and doctors to monitor asthma. By collecting data, the company is able to calculate inhaling efficacy, monitor daily usage to help work out correlations and sending medication reminders.

This not only helps build a more accurate picture for doctors, but it also generates personalised reports to help people manage their asthma. By alerting them to correlations and potential triggers, it not only helps them keep on top of it, but allows them to learn more about what could be causing it.

MediTuner
