About Be.EV
Be.EV is the UK’s fastest growing EV charging network – established in Greater Manchester in 2019 and now operating nationwide. It manages a growing network of over 750 live charge points, with an additional 250+ scheduled to go live across the UK by the end of 2024.
Asif Ghafoor and Adrian Fielden-Gray founded the company in response to the lack of focus on customer experience in the EV charging sector. Too many networks were prioritising quantity over quality, leading to slow, outdated charging technology being installed nationwide.
Be.EV was also founded to address the regional inequality of the UK’s EV charging network. There are more EV chargers inside the M25 than the rest of the country and a number of communities are being left behind in the race to clean transport.
To Be.EV, it’s vitally important that the nation has equal access to a reliable, ultra-rapid EV charging network – not just for EV drivers, but for everyone.
Over 36,000 people die every year from air pollution, and over half of the UK’s domestic vehicle emissions come from cars. Be.EV knows that communities left behind by the EV charging roll-out will suffer more than people realise unless the disparity is addressed.
The business has played a large part in helping to remedy this through a focus on putting the right chargers in the right place.
It delivers what EV drivers – and its 41,00+ members – actually want: publicly accessible, rapid and ultra-rapid charging hubs, conveniently located on busy routes, at dwell destinations and in the hearts of communities nationwide.
Be.EV’s partnerships with councils have boosted the EV charging provision of some of the country’s most underserved areas.
When the business started working with Trafford Council in 2021, it was among the worst in the country for EV charging provision, but now the council has nearly four times as many chargers per person than the national average.
This work, along with its partnerships with household names such as Decathlon, Dobbies and JW Lees has seen the North-West recently named the region most interested in EVs – largely due to improved charging infrastructure.
Be.EV has also been included in Zapmap’s list of the UK’s top-rated charging networks, coming fourth in the rapid/ultra-rapid category.
Its monumental rise in just four years shows Be.EV is well on its way to becoming the number one charging network of choice for EV drivers nationwide.
Be.EV is backed by £110 million from Octopus Energy Generation – the majority shareholder and one of Europe’s largest renewable energy investors.
It’s also one of the first EV charging companies to secure debt finance, with NatWest and KfW-IPEX Bank leading a £55 million commitment.
This is set to add seven million miles of range to Be.EV’s network and accelerate its mission to clean up air across the country.
