Lushair was founded in 2023 by bio-engineering entrepreneur Fiona Bao, driven by a personal mission to democratize scalp and hair diagnostics. Rather than rely on in-clinic visits, the team set out to build a medical-grade AI tool that can deliver meaningful insights from home. One of the biggest early hurdles was gathering high-quality, clinically relevant data: through partnerships with leading dermatology centres and salons, Lushair collected and labeled over 30,000 dermatologist-annotated scalp images to train its AI.
Their flagship product, the Lushair Scalp Explorer, uses a dual-scan system — a quick selfie scan plus a dermatoscope scan — to assess 16 scalp and hair health metrics in around four seconds, including follicle density, oil balance, redness, and damage state. By combining hardware, AI and a deep clinical data foundation, the company enables hospital-grade insights in a consumer-friendly format.
Since launching, Lushair has gained momentum globally. The platform has logged 100,000+ scans, and supports more than 20,000 users across 28+ countries.
