Onion is a dynamic and innovative company set out to revolutionise the workplace experience since inception. Founded in September 2022, Onion is slowly growing as a promising leader in the employee recognition and engagement space, offering a platform that fosters a positive and motivating work environment.
At its core, Onion aims to address the challenge of employee engagement and recognition within organisations. We recognised that traditional approaches to recognising and rewarding employees were often cumbersome, infrequent, and lacked the personal touch needed to truly resonate with today’s workforce. To tackle this issue, we at Onion introduced a gamified and user-friendly platform that empowers employees to recognise and reward their peers in real time.
The platform operates on a simple premise: employees receive a virtual currency, which they can use to give small bonuses (otherwise called Onions) to their colleagues for exemplary work, going above and beyond, or embodying company values. These onions can then be redeemed for a variety of rewards, creating a fun and interactive recognition system that aligns with the preferences of the modern workforce.
The overarching problem Onion seeks to solve is the disconnect between employees and their organisations. In many workplaces, employees may feel undervalued or overlooked, leading to decreased morale and productivity. Onion bridges this gap by democratising recognition, enabling every team member to celebrate their peers’ accomplishments openly. This not only boosts individual morale but also contributes to a positive and collaborative company culture.
Since its inception, Onion has garnered significant traction and delivered tangible results for its clients. One of the key metrics of success is the improvement in employee engagement levels. By providing a platform that encourages regular and immediate recognition, organisations using Onion have reported increased employee satisfaction, higher retention rates, and a more vibrant workplace culture.
Moreover, Onion has proven effective in breaking down hierarchical barriers within organisations. Traditional top-down recognition models often create a gap between leadership and employees. Onion’s approach, on the other hand, empowers everyone to participate in the recognition process, fostering a sense of equality and community.
The results speak for themselves: companies using Onion have reported a boost in overall employee happiness, leading to increased productivity and innovation. The platform’s data analytics capabilities also provide valuable insights into employee engagement trends, enabling organisations to make informed decisions to further enhance their workplace culture.
Onion went live in October 2023. So far, we have six (6) companies onboarded, with an average number of 45 users per company. The combined number of users from companies totalling 302.
Number of appreciations given are close to 56,000+, Number of virtual onions given are ø400,000+.
In conclusion, Onion is not just a platform; it’s a catalyst for positive change in workplaces worldwide. By addressing the fundamental need for recognition and engagement, Onion is becoming an indispensable tool for companies striving to create a workplace where employees thrive, collaborate, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.
