About SpotlessWater

Pure water powers entire industries, from window cleaning to solar panel maintenance, but access to it has historically been slow, costly and environmentally harmful. SpotlessWater is changing that with the UK’s first network of self-service pure water stations for cleaning and maintenance professionals, using patent-pending technology to deliver a faster and more sustainable service.

I founded SpotlessWater in 2016 after several years running my first business, Spotless Mobile, a specialist roadside maintenance company for city-based car clubs. That experience taught me a great deal about entrepreneurship and scalability but also revealed a huge gap in the market for accessible pure water. I found constant problems with having to make our own pure water out of our vans, which was slow and prone to breakdowns. I wanted to find a better way.

Working with our chief engineer Courtney, who brought deep expertise in water systems, we developed a radically improved water purification process. After several years of refinement, our Spotless EcoFlowÒ system has more in common with the water filtration machinery involved in nuclear reactors than traditional water filtration systems.

To make pure water truly accessible and hassle-free, I reconnected with Pete, who I worked with previously in a self-service fintech business, to design self-service stations. With the help of our operations director Adam, who developed the software and intuitive user interface, we created a system that’s easy to use and available 24/7, putting control directly in customers’ hands.

Our first station became a swift success and customer demand drove national expansion. We have dispensed over 600 million litres, support more than 19,000 weekly refills across 150 stations and recently announced a partnership with Morrisons to roll out stations across its nationwide estate. Our ambition is to reach 1,200 stations by 2029.

Of course, growth has come with challenges. Choosing the right locations was critical – some were too far away from major hubs, while others were difficult to access for customers, so we use a data-driven approach and AI heatmapping to identify both high demand and accessible areas. We’ve also encountered vast regional variations in water quality, including hardness and TDS (total dissolved solids) levels, and had to refine our process to ensure consistent delivery countrywide.

Crucially, sustainability has been a key consideration. Traditional pure water systems use lots of resin that needs constant replacement, with waste resin beads going to landfill, so we have spent significant time ensuring our technology is more sustainable. Our process uses chemical-free filtration systems which eliminate the need for disposable resin, reducing plastic pollution, conserving water and saving landfill space.

Our impact on the industry cannot be overstated. With a unique product born from real-world frustration, SpotlessWater exists in a market category all to itself. Whether serving local window cleaners or national fleets, by providing convenient access to pure water, we are empowering businesses to save time, reduce costs and operate more sustainably. As we expand our network, we’re setting new standards for efficiency and environmental responsibility in the water industry.
