About GoStudent
GoStudent started as a homework chat app, established when CEO Felix Ohswald was studying for his masters degree. He was tutoring maths on the side, and was surprised by how many students were seeking support. It dawned on him it wasn’t what he was teaching that drew students to him, but how he brought the subject to life. From this he realised the key to success is the right student-tutor match, and that tutoring online removes geographical limitations.
The company has since evolved from offering ad-hoc assistance, to providing tailored longer-term academic support to students in a 1:1, group, online or offline setting, but its core motive has always stayed the same: to harness the power of technology to connect students with their ideal tutors, allowing them to learn in the best way for them, unlocking their full potential.
Since, GoStudent has made a series of significant acquisitions. Within the GoStudent Group now sits AI-driven content platform Seneca Learning, open tutoring marketplace Tus Media, and offline tutoring business, Studienkreis, which has more than 900 physical tutoring centres across the DACH region.
GoStudent believes AI will transform education, and in 2023 raised $95 million to drive innovation in this space. In Q4 2023, GoStudent launched an AI lesson planning tool, saving its 23,000 tutors an average of 15 minutes per lesson. By April 2024, they introduced GoStudent Learning, a platform featuring Amelia, a 24/7 AI tutor, providing students with instant access to personalised quizzes and curriculum-aligned content—doubling the effectiveness of traditional methods.
In September 2024, GoStudent further advanced its AI capabilities with the launch of Lesson Summaries: an automated lesson summary offering real-time insights for parents, students, and tutors on student progress. These summaries support accountability, transparency, and constructive feedback, enhancing engagement and lesson safety. Initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with 97% of users rating it 5 stars.
Founded in Vienna, Austria, in 2016, GoStudent has raised more than 590m EUR from investors including Prosus and SoftBank Vision Fund 2. In June 2021, GoStudent was named Europe’s first EdTech unicorn. Currently, the GoStudent Group is supporting 10 million students in more than 15 countries.
