About Linkgevity
Dr. Carina Kern is Founder and CEO of LinkGevity, an AI-driven biotech company based at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge. With a background in Biochemistry, Evolutionary Biology and Genetics, Dr. Kern’s previous work is known for identifying key mechanisms of aging and lifespan extension in laboratory models and evaluating likelihood of translation to humans. Her latest research harnesses AI to explore and target biological pathways involved in aging and cell death, leading to the development of a pioneering Anti-Necrotic platform with broad implications for both terrestrial and space medicine. This technology, which addresses the critical challenge of necrosis (i.e. unprogrammed cell death), is poised to transform long-duration space missions by enabling advancements in cryopreservation, organoid preservation, artificial organ growth, and kidney protection. Beyond her work at LinkGevity, Dr. Kern serves as the Scientific Chair of the global CleanTech Challenge at London Business School and is the President of the London Evolutionary Research Scientific Network
Serena grew up in the mountains of Southern India. After achieving the highest GCSE score in India, she moved to London to study law at the London School of Economics.
She began her career as a corporate lawyer at Magic Circle Law firm Slaughter and May, before following a longstanding interest in public service to move into leadership roles at the Bank of England – where she served as Head of Market Access – and at HM Treasury.
Serena is now COO and General Counsel of LinkGevity, a Cambridge-based biotech company working at the intersection of AI and longevity science. The company’s mission – to improve healthspan through technology – reflects her broader motivation to use science and innovation for public good.
Outside her professional life, Serena is passionate about equal opportunities and education. She co-founded Discover2Dream, a London-based initiative that connects young women from state schools with professional role models across industries, helping raise career aspirations and confidence.
She also served on the board of the Small Countries Financial Management Centre, a charity that delivers capacity-building programmes for public-sector officials from some of the world’s smallest economies. She is on the Board of SkillSonics, a multi-national social enterprise that is focused on upskilling young people in India and Africa.
Away from the boardroom, Serena is an accomplished musician and songwriter, performing under the name Segiri. Through her label, D2D Records, a social enterprise, she mentors and supports emerging young female artists. Her own music has been featured on BBC Radio, Apple Music and Spotify.
