About MyEdSpace

MyEdSpace is the online learning platform making top-tier education available to every UK student. Covering the full curriculum in English, Maths and the Sciences from KS2 to A-Level, MyEdSpace pairs the UK’s top 1% of teachers with a virtual classroom built for how students learn today. The idea is simple: one great teacher can reach thousands.

Co-founders Sean Hirons and Kharis Yanakidis, both from families where education was the top priority, left finance to build the platform they wish they’d had at school. Sean learned the power of teaching when he flunked his GCSEs (largely down to poor teaching) after moving schools he achieved 3 A*s and 2 As in his A-Levels. He found it highly unfair that someone’s location has such an effect on their grades, and has been determined to level the playing field ever since.

So they founded MyEdSpace in 2021. Its online platform allows its teachers, which are among the best 1% in the UK, to teach thousands of children at one time via live-streams. This model means that MyEdSpace can offer its world-class content from as little as £5 an hour, compared to the average cost of £37.50 for traditional tutoring.

Teachers are subject to a rigorous hiring process, which involves them resitting their A-Level exams and getting near top marks. This is in stark contrast to the unregulated private tutoring market, which is a Wild West where parents usually have no idea whether their children’s tutor is qualified or not.

The teachers use social media to reach and teach millions – connecting with students in ways traditional classrooms simply can’t. They’ve built a community of over 4m followers on social media consuming their educational content.

Furthermore, its lessons have proven to be more engaging. In a normal classroom, the average kid puts their hand up zero or maybe one time per lesson. MyEdSpace teachers encourage students to message and receive around 20-30 messages per student in each lesson on average.

The world-class and engaging teaching has created tangible impact. They’ve supported over 16,000 students and boosted grades. This summer, 51% of MyEdSpace GCSE Maths students achieved top grades 7-9, more than triple the national average. In English Literature and English Language, 44% and 43% of students respectively scored grades 7-9, double the national average.

It recently attracted $15m in funding and is expanding this impact to the USA, where it started streaming its first lessons in the last few months.
