Founded in 2021, the company was inspired by the blue-collar roots of Anna Berger. Growing up in a construction family, she watched her father lose entire weekends manually calculating union wages, taxes, and worker compliance on paper timesheets. Together with co-founder Cara Kessler, a veteran technical leader who spent a decade building web systems for LinkedIn, they set out to solve this systemic bottleneck. They realised that while ninety-five percent of construction software is built for general contractors, specialty trades do the actual physical work, outnumber general contractors four hundred to one, and have been completely ignored by modern technology.
The co-founders overcame significant initial hurdles, bootstrapping the company to develop a robust platform capable of handling the extreme compliance burden of construction labour. In this industry, a single worker can earn multiple different wage rates in a single day depending on union rules, project jurisdictions, and prevailing wage regulations. Traditional payroll platforms simply break under this level of variability, forcing office teams into manual workarounds. By automating these calculations, Trayd has simplified the back-office process for hundreds of contractors, securing backing from Y Combinator and raising fifteen million dollars in funding.
Trayd has processed more than one hundred million dollars in payroll to date, achieving over six hundred percent year-over-year revenue growth. By automating complex pay rules, the platform reduces the average weekly payroll processing time from fourteen hours to just twenty-seven minutes. This massive administrative relief has allowed growing businesses to scale their field workforces by hundreds of percent without needing to hire additional office staff. We continue to expand nationally, empowering skilled workers and contractors across the country with the modern financial tools they deserve to build the physical world.
