About Dr. Nadine Hachach Haram BEM
Dr Nadine Hachach-Haram FRCS (Plast), BEM, is the CEO and Founder of Proximie, and Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Director of Clinical Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She is also Co-Managing Partner of KHP Ventures. In 2016, Dr. Nadine drew on her surgical experiences, including 10 years spent on Global Health Initiatives, and her passion for innovation, to create Proximie.
Proximie was recently cited by Sifted as being a future Unicorn and last year had a 300% Year-on-Year increase in the number of Operating Rooms (ORs) using the platform around the world. The software platform that enables healthcare teams to record and archive every single surgery, has been used in every surgical specialty due to its software-first design, and has been used in more than 50 countries, in over 800 hospitals worldwide, and by over 40 medical device organisations. To date, Proximie’s archive now encompasses 100,000 hours of high quality video, audio and device data stored on its platform, with each hour ultimately helping to write the code for better informed, predictive, and digitally-connected healthcare ecosystems.
Most importantly, this technology is being used in the Global North and Global South, as variation in care and access to safe surgery is a problem everywhere, not just somewhere (The Lancet Commission revealed that five billion people in the world lack access to safe and affordable surgery). For example, Proximie’s partnerships in East Africa stands as a beacon of hope for demonstrating what’s possible when accessible technology brings dedicated local teams and global experts together. Last year alone, Proximie’s global health initiatives have helped transform lives across Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia and beyond, advancing their mission to democratise access to safe surgery.
In 2022, Proximie secured $80 million investment in a series C round.
Every healthcare system now effectively needs to do more, with less and Proximie is emerging as a catalyst to help teams do this. Proximie’s four video source feeds provide a multi-angle view of the OR, ambiently capturing the right data at the right time from the right devices – so that no aspect of any procedure goes unrecorded, unmeasured or unseen.
In 2017, Dr. Nadine gave a TedTalk titled ‘How Augmented Reality Could Change the Future of Surgery’ which has garnered 1.3 million views. She received the British Empire Medal in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours for her innovative work within the fields of surgery and medicine. She has also undertaken a number of roles to help advance surgery, including being a council member of the Royal College of Surgeons Future of Surgery Commission, council member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) Innovation UK, and part of the Royal Society of Medicine Plastic Surgery Section. In 2023, she appeared on the front cover of Wired magazine as their cover star and has also featured in the Financial Times, The BBC, CNN the Bloomberg amongst many others.
