About Jane Jin
Jane Jin is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of OXCCU, an Oxford University spinout company focused on converting carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuels, chemicals, and biodegradable plastics. Founded in 2021, OXCCU has commercialised groundbreaking chemistry research developed over a decade at the University of Oxford. As a young company, we have already overcome significant challenges in scaling our novel technology for converting carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
One of our biggest hurdles has been demonstrating the viability of our single-step process at larger scales. In 2024, we successfully launched our OX1 demonstration plant at Oxford Airport, producing 1.2 litres of SAF daily. This milestone validated our unique catalyst and reactor design, proving we can efficiently convert CO2 directly into jet fuel-range hydrocarbons. Our recent techno-economic analysis has validated a 50% reduction in capital costs and a 25% reduction in fuel costs for e-SAF using our technology.
Securing funding to support our rapid growth has also been crucial. We raised £18 million in Series A funding and were awarded a £2.8 million government grant in 2024 to accelerate aviation sector decarbonisation. This financial backing has enabled us to expand our team from 10 to 21 employees and advance our technology development and engineering capability.
Looking ahead, we have ambitious plans to scale up our operations further and establish OXCCU as a technology leader in SAF. A key focus is developing our OX2 plant, a fully integrated demonstration plant at Oxford Airport that will be able to produce jet fuel on spec jet A1. This will demonstrate our technology in what we believe will be the world’s most hydrogen-efficient Power-to-Liquid process.
We are also prioritising efforts to obtain ASTM certification for our OXEFUEL jet fuel product. This is a critical step in proving the global market potential of our power-to-liquid SAF and enabling widespread adoption by airlines.
Beyond technical milestones, we are dedicated to building a company culture that supports innovation and values our people. We have mentoring and training programmes in place. Collaboration is also key to our success. We are actively building partnerships across the aviation industry, including with airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and regulatory bodies. With supportive policies emerging globally and increasing demand for low-carbon solutions, OXCCU is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in decarbonising the aviation sector.
