What Is Read With Phonics?
Read with Phonics is an app designed to help children learn to read by turning lessons into phonics games. It was founded by Sophie Cooper, a Key Stage 1 primary school teacher in England, who wanted to create more engaging ways for teaching children to read.
With traditional phonics learning typically involving a lot of repetition (which can be highly disengaging for children), Read with Phonics makes the learning process more fun. The platform has now grown to have over 500,000 users across 5,000 schools – showing just how useful it is as a learning tool.
By combining education with gamification, Read with Phonics is nurturing a love of reading in children worldwide.
What Makes Read With Phonics Unique?
Read with Phonics is unique for its approach to helping children learn to read. Unlike traditional teaching methods, which can be boring and hard to understand for young readers, Read with Phonics turns learning to read into a game, making it more fun.
The app gradually gets more difficult, starting with basic sounds and moving onto sound/letter combinations as they complete each game. Points are given for the right answers, giving children positive reinforcement. As they progress through the levels, they not only become more engaged with reading, but more confident too.
In app also includes pupil tracking, so parents and teachers can more clearly see where their students might need a bit of extra help.
“The ability to read is the foundation of all education, you cannot progress without it. I wanted to make learning to read as easy and as accessible as possible, to give every child around the world the best possible start in life.“
– Sophie Cooper, teacher and founder of The Read with Phonics Games.

Is There A Market For Educational Phonics Platforms?
Definitely! Global online education market is expected to reach $350 billion by 2025, with childhood education being a huge part of this. As schools become more populated and one-to-one support is harder to access, tools that allow parents and teachers to inspire independent learning are hugely valuable.
Additionally, given Phonics is the basis of education, apps that can help children progress in this area will always be in demand.
And gamification is a big part of this. A 2020 survey conducted by Technavio showed that gamification market is set to grow by $43 billion between 2023 and 2028, showing the way that industries are using gamification in new ways. As a tool that can be used alongside classroom learning, Read with Phonics is helping parents, teachers and schools inspire a love of reading.
