About Liledu

Liledu is an educational toy subscription service from Lithuania, that delivers and swaps Montessori-inspired play kits every month.

Designed for children aged 0-36 months, the company is setting out to reduce toy waste in households. By delivering age-appropriate toys monthly, whilst also swapping out the older ones, the company helps children stay engaged, without accumulating unused toys.

Not only that, it also helps parents save money whilst also providing them with the toys that will best support their child’s development.

Recently, the company announced a €500K funding round, which will allow them to expand to the UK market.

Laurynas Pamparas, the founder of Liledu, commented on this expansion:

“After extensive market research, we chose the UK as our initial focus for expansion. We launched our pilot and quickly met our key performance indicators through actual sales, not just waitlists.”

What Makes Liledu Unique?

Liledu sets itself apart from other toy companies with its subscription-based “Play & Swap” model, which prevents kids accumulating toys they grow out of.

Unlike other toy rental services, Liledu creates their toy kits with the child’s developmental stage in mind, making sure they are learning as they grow.

Another thing that sets them apart is their sustainability-first mentality. All of their toys are made from eco-friendly materials, helping to reduce the vast amount of waste in the sector.

When it comes to the cost, premium toys worth up to £150 per kit are sold for a subscription of £27.99 per month, making it a more affordable option for parents as well.

If children don’t enjoy the toys they get, they can swap them or pause them. If they do, they can opt to buy them outright with a specific discount.

Is There a Market for Sustainable Toy Subscriptions?

The global toy market is valued at over $120 billion, but the industry is constantly criticised for its contribution to waste.

Currently, 80% of toys end up in landfill, and parents spend hundreds of pounds every year on toys their children quickly outgrow.

In 2023, a study found that 60% of parents prefer companies with sustainable practices. But finding these solutions isn’t easy.

Not only that, but parents are also constantly looking for toys and tools that will help their child’s development.

A subscription toy service that is more sustainable, more convenient and more affordable is a welcome change – setting Liledu up for success.
