About Payhawk

Payhawk is an AI-native spend management platform that unifies company cards, expenses, invoices, reimbursements and accounting integrations in one system, with a suite of AI agents that run finance workflows from request to reconciliation. What drives the company is one conviction: finance teams should spend their hours on judgement and strategy, not on chasing receipts and routing approvals.

Founded in 2018 by Hristo Borisov, Konstantin Dzhengozov and Boyko Karadzhov, Payhawk set out to replace the tangle of disconnected tools and manual admin that slows finance teams across Europe and beyond.

The hardest challenge was not building AI agents but making them trustworthy enough for finance. Finance is a regulated, audit-sensitive function where a wrong action carries real financial and compliance cost, so generic autonomous agents are unacceptable. Payhawk had to design agents that act only within company policy, budget limits and approval rules, keep a person in the loop for material decisions, and leave a complete audit trail. Reaching that bar meant solving for accuracy, governance and integration across fragmented ERP and accounting systems before any agent could be trusted in production.

That work produced the AI Office of the CFO, launched in April 2025: a suite of purpose-built agents for month-end close, procurement, travel and payments support. Its contribution to the AI industry is a working model for governed, vertical AI agents in a regulated function. Instead of one general assistant, Payhawk shows how multiple domain agents can operate safely inside policy guardrails, with human approval and auditability built in. It is a practical template for how agentic AI scales in finance, procurement and other compliance-bound functions, where trust matters as much as speed.

The Financial Controller Agent automates receipt collection, document upload and anomaly flagging around close. The Procurement Agent turns a plain-language request into a routed, policy-checked purchase. The Travel Agent books within policy and produces trip reports and grouped expenses ready for ERP. The Payments Agent resolves employee questions on cards and reimbursements and proposes compliant next steps. Across early customer deployments, Payhawk reports expenses submitted twice as fast, request-to-purchase time down 60 percent, around 90 minutes saved per business trip, and close to 40 percent of finance helpdesk queries resolved automatically.

Customer results back this up. Discordia, one of the largest logistics operators in Europe, brought 25,000 monthly expense notes across 1,500 trucks and 2,000 drivers under control with Payhawk and reports a fourfold gain in finance productivity. Astrid & Miyu, a jewellery retailer with stores across the UK and Europe, cut expense processing time by 66 percent, freeing more than 40 hours a week.

Payhawk shows that AI agents can take real work off finance teams without sacrificing the control, policy and auditability the function depends on. That is the contribution: a credible, governed path for agentic AI inside the systems that move company money.
