When Cintoo was founded in 2013, point cloud data (originating from 3D scanners) was so large, the files couldn’t be easily shared between internal teams, external partners or clients, and the 3D data itself was difficult to view, interpret and navigate, and only supported in desktop-centric workflows, which left information siloed.
We launched the Cintoo platform in 2019 to solve these challenges, transforming 3D scan data management and collaboration for AECO and Industrial Asset Owners. Hardware agnostic and cloud-based, it lets anyone with a web browser upload laser scan data, which technical and non-technical users alike can access, interpret and collaborate on.
Our biggest challenge was the file-size itself and addressing this is our core innovation. Our proprietary TurboMeshTM technology converts high-density scan data from terrestrial, mobile or drone scanners into lightweight, high-fidelity 3D mesh, 10-20 times smaller in size, making it fast to stream and share in the cloud.
We invest continuously in new functionality based on customer needs. We’ve just launched Cintoo Workspace, which lets users step inside their high-fidelity scan data to further enhance collaboration and decision-making. We also forge strategic partnerships to improve the customer experience, such as an Esri ArcGIS integration last year and our new 360 Edition solution with Ricoh.
The US is Cintoo’s largest market, with our American headquarters in Miami, Florida, where CEO, Dominique Pouliquen, relocated to grow the business, and home to a US team of around 15. Our patented point cloud-to-mesh engine is now used across the industries that anchor American manufacturing and infrastructure, with automotive giants like Stellantis and GM using it to build virtual versions of their factories and plan renovations without disrupting production; energy companies such as BP using digital twins to manage sprawling refineries and pipelines; and engineering and construction firms such as Arup and Haskell relying on it for as-built verification and BIM coordination.
As John Brown, a Supervisor in General Motors’ Reality Capture division, puts it: “Cintoo has really democratised point cloud data so that’s become the deliverable standard. Our engineers are leveraging these datasets regardless of what region they’re in.”
Our growth has been backed in part by US capital, with Accenture Ventures joining our Series A and Partech leading our €37 million Series B, directed at further US expansion. The platform integrates with the American software tools these teams already use, like Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, BIM 360 and Procore.
Today, the platform is used by more than 110,000 professionals, with a US-rooted team helping AEC, automotive and energy operators deliver projects faster and more accurately and turn reality capture data into a long-term asset.
