Founded in 2018, Airspace Link is an FAA-backed air traffic control system for low-flying drones. The technology can quickly identity if a drone is a threat so personnel can take action. Airspace Link is known as the Google Maps of the sky, creating order amid a lot of chaos. Airspace Link is operating in cities across the U.S. as well as at military bases in the U.S. and abroad. Airspace Link partnered with FIFA during the World Cup to oversee drone activity over stadiums to ensure fan safety.
With Amazon, Walmart, and other drone deliveries, the skies are getting very crowded. Airspace Link helps prevent drones from crashing into one another. The company also sees the very important need for Drones as First Responders to help police and medics during car accidents and other emergencies. More cities across the country are beginning to recognise the need for this technology. It’s becoming extremely necessary as more and more drones fill the skies.
One of the biggest challenges is getting municipalities and leaders to recognise the need for this technology while simultaneously watching the drone industry grow in unexpected ways. CEO Michael Healander is a drone pilot himself, with over 20 years of experience in geospatial and transportation technology. Michael saw early on the challenges that the drone industry would face as it began slowly growing.
Envisioning the positive impact that drones at scale could provide to economies and quality of life for people around the globe, Michael developed his concept of safe infrastructure to enable that progress. Healander plays an active role in shaping drone policy and standards, serving on the Esri Partner Advisory Board, the FAA’s BEYOND program, and multiple UAS industry groups including AUVSI, ASTM, and the Commercial Drone Alliance.
