We previously spoke about how AI is handling HR admin. Now, OpenAI wants to handle website admin, giving ChatGPT the ability to help people publish websites, connect custom domains and assist with website administration after a site goes live.
The new ChatGPT Sites feature lets users create, edit, publish, share and manage websites and lightweight web apps through ChatGPT Work on the web or through Work and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app. Users describe the website they want, upload any content or files, review a preview and continue refining everything through normal prompts.
One of the biggest additions covers website domains. ChatGPT can now help users connect an existing domain to their website. If browsing or computer use is enabled, ChatGPT can also guide users through their domain provider after they sign in, making domain management much easier for people without technical experience.
How Does ChatGPT Build A Website?
OpenAI said users can ask ChatGPT to build dashboards, project trackers, reports, launch calendars, prototypes and internal portals. Users can also type @Sites within their prompt if they want ChatGPT to generate a website.
ChatGPT generates a private preview before anything goes live. Users can request new layouts, edit text, update forms, adjust styling or add interactive features until they are happy with the finished website.
Publishing also happens through ChatGPT. Once the website is ready, ChatGPT generates a production URL that owners can share. Users who want to review updates before replacing the live website can save a new version first and publish only after checking every detail.
Custom domains work differently because OpenAI does not register domain names. Users must already own their domain and have permission to edit DNS records through their domain provider. ChatGPT supplies the DNS records required, then guides users through the setup process after they sign into their domain provider.
Who Can Use ChatGPT Sites?
ChatGPT Sites launched as a public beta for paid plans except Free and Go.
Pro, Pro Lite, Enterprise and Edu customers receive access first. Plus and Business customers receive access during the rollout. The feature is unavailable in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland at launch.

Business workspaces have Sites switched on automatically. Enterprise workspaces operate differently because administrators decide who can create and publish websites. Public publishing also starts switched off until an administrator gives permission.
OpenAI also applies usage limits during the public beta. Users who reach their allowance may lose the ability to create new websites, add storage or keep busy websites publicly available until usage goes down. Existing websites can continue receiving edits and management.
What Should Users Check Before Publishing?
Publishing a website does not automatically make it available to everyone. Owners choose who receives access before making the website available.
OpenAI said websites can stay private, become available to selected users or groups, open across an entire workspace or become available to anyone on the internet where public publishing is permitted. Enterprise administrators also decide if public publishing becomes available across their organisation.
OpenAI advises users to review generated text, uploaded files, forms, interactive features and any information that should stay private before publishing. Users should also confirm they have permission to publish any third party material appearing on the website.
Deleting a website permanently removes it. OpenAI said deleted Sites cannot be restored, and owners must confirm deletion before the website disappears.
What Changes For Workplace Accounts?
OpenAI also published new guidance explaining what organisation administrators can access through managed ChatGPT accounts.
According to the company, administrators may access, export, audit, retain or delete prompts, uploaded files, generated responses, conversation history, shared workspace content and usage information, depending on organisational settings and applicable laws.
Administrators also decide which ChatGPT services employees may use. They can switch features off, limit access to selected groups, suspend accounts or delete accounts completely.
OpenAI also reminds users that switching between work and personal accounts does not merge them. Chats, files and settings stay separate. Anyone wanting personal activity outside workplace administration should use a personal ChatGPT account instead of an organisation managed account.
