Are UK News Presenters Fed Up?

Slipping up, forgetting your words, making a mistake and even swearing during a live presentation or broadcast have traditionally all fallen into the category of ‘absolute faux pas.’ Newsrooms, radio studios and live broadcasts are fast becoming more stressful than ever in the UK in recent times. This is more than likely as a result of various influences and factors including stories breaking quicker than ever, guests and even politicians from all sides being a lot bolder in what they will say to presenters, Brexit, people shouting at presenters in Westminster about Brexit and political broadcasts in general about politics, Brexit and the economy and everything else.

Why though, have more and more presenters from across the board, from Sky News, to the BBC and further afield, become such troopers with their swearing?

BBC News

BBC News have been particularly guilty when it comes to these errors more recently. We all remember poor old Guy Goma, who had come into the BBC for a job interview and whilst in the reception of the world-famous Television Centre, was mistaken for Guy Kewney, a legal expert to discuss a recent legal case involving Apple…you can see the moment he realises what’s happened…

When it comes to swearing though, the BBC have outdone themselves with presenters including Victoria Derbyshire, Bill Turnbull and Louise Minchin all falling victim to the political curse of swearing live on TV. Although it is no secret that presenters fall foul to Jeremy Hunt’s name, is there any excuse for this lot?

Sky News

Sky News’ Adam Boulton is the chief candidate here. However, in the last week, Jon Craig has entered the fold, being picked up on microphone with a superb little gaffe when interviewing union boss Len McClusky, who although did state the obvious, didn’t expect this…

He does have form though…

Now over to the king of swearing on Sky News, Editor at Large, Adam Boulton…

Sky News have always been good at dealing with hecklers and distractions to their broadcasts though…

That all said, Jeremy Hunt’s name is definitely the minefield of minefields…
