“International Women’s Day is an opportunity for me to applaud amazing female entrepreneurs and those that continue to inspire me to keep doing what I’m doing. Whether that’s tennis player, Naomi Osaka, Bumble CEO, Whitney Wolfe Herd or Holly Tucker of Not on the High Street fame, who works tirelessly to champion small businesses.”

“I founded one of the estimated 85,000 online businesses that launched during lockdown in the UK. I moved back to England at the end of February 2020, with rather horrendous timing and almost immediately went into lockdown.”

“The head office retail job I had secured, deferred my start date from March to June and then ghosted me altogether, probably due to the entire team being furloughed. With no job prospects on the horizon and no other source of income, I had to do something to save myself. That’s when Love From Aunty became a reality. An online children’s gift shop aimed at helping aunties find the best gifts for the most important people in their lives.”

“I started with an ironing board desk and hardly any capital. I had a great idea and 20 years’ experience in bricks and mortar retailing. I talked my way into securing credit terms from suppliers to buy stock despite operating out of my living room.”

“I used my transferable skills to create my own website and quickly launched it to the public. I had to open it a day early as I had no money left! I didn’t realise that PayPal hold the takings of new companies for 3 weeks to protect themselves from scams.”

“80% of my trade came through PayPal. I was nearly done before I had even started! Joining a community of small businesses was the most commercial decision I made. Any questions I had were quickly answered by the knowledgeable and supportive group.”

“I thoroughly recommend Amanda Perry’s E-com Growth Hub. Amanda herself is an inspiring female entrepreneur. Alongside the Hub, she runs a creative digital marketing agency, Soup, helping others to scale and succeed.”

“This year, I’ll be celebrating International Women’s Day by posting about it on my new social handles for my fledgling company. What a difference a year makes!”
