About NeuroSense

NeuroSense is a digital health startup building a more proactive approach to epilepsy care. Its platform combines wearable data, patient-reported information, and clinical context to generate personalised insights into seizure risk and help patients and clinicians better understand what happens between neurology appointments.

The company was founded in 2026 by Hayoung Ahn, a UCLA medical student pursuing neurology, and Xuelong Mu, a software engineer with experience in real-time sensor monitoring systems. By bringing together clinical and technical perspectives, the founders are addressing a problem that remains largely unsolved despite major advances in wearable technology.

Epilepsy care is often based on brief appointments separated by several months. During that time, seizure risk may be influenced by changes in sleep, stress, medication adherence, activity, illness, menstrual cycles, and other individual factors. However, patients are frequently asked to reconstruct this information from memory, while clinicians are left making important treatment decisions from an incomplete snapshot.

NeuroSense was created to make the time between appointments more visible. Rather than functioning as a standard seizure diary, NeuroSense is developing an intelligent platform that brings together multiple layers of information. Wearable devices can contribute continuous measures such as sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability, and activity, while patients can record seizures, symptoms, medications, and relevant daily factors. Clinical information and each patient’s individual baseline provide additional context.

The NeuroSense prototype includes smartwatch integration, seizure and medication logging, longitudinal trends, and a personalized daily risk interface. The platform is designed to become more useful over time as it learns which patterns are most relevant for each individual, rather than applying the same assumptions to every person with epilepsy.

A central development challenge has been creating meaningful guidance from real world health data without overstating what early algorithms can determine. The founders have approached this by focusing first on reliable data collection, clear patient feedback, and longitudinal pattern recognition. The team is building toward prospective validation, clinical partnerships, and a responsible regulatory strategy as the product advances.

In 2026, NeuroSense won the Red Bull Basement USA National Final and represented the United States at the World Final in San Francisco. The experience allowed the founders to develop the product with support from global technology and entrepreneurship mentors while demonstrating the demand for more continuous and personalized epilepsy care.

NeuroSense is now advancing its product development, patient testing, clinical collaborations, and validation strategy. Its longer-term goal is to become the missing data layer between neurology appointments, helping epilepsy care move from episodic and reactive toward continuous, personalized, and proactive.
