About Avantra

Founded in 2000, Avantra began as Syslink, built to help enterprises manage the operational overhead of running SAP. In February 2020, the company rebranded as Avantra. That relaunch marked a pivot from traditional SAP monitoring towards predictive, automated operations built for hybrid and cloud environments, setting the direction ever since.

As Avantra expanded from its Swiss roots into an international SaaS company, another challenge was building the teams, partnerships and customer infrastructure needed to support organisations across multiple regions. The company now serves more than 500 SAP deployments worldwide, with teams spanning Switzerland, the UK, the US, Germany, Eastern Europe and India. Avantra has also evolved its technology as customers moved from traditional on-premises SAP environments towards increasingly complex hybrid and cloud landscapes.

SAP operations have historically relied on manual health checks, fragmented toolsets and reactive firefighting, all of which absorb scarce Basis and engineering time that could otherwise go towards transformation work. Avantra was built to remove that burden without asking customers to add headcount or replace their existing SAP investment, and a recent customer journey shows how that plays out in practice.

At Howdens, the UK-based trade kitchen supplier, the Basis team needed to increase monitoring coverage across an expanding hybrid estate, including a live cloud migration to SAP RISE, while keeping the same lean team structure. The migration ran over a single weekend, and the agentless design behind Avantra meant monitoring was fully operational by that evening, with no extra infrastructure to deploy and no gap in oversight while the new environment settled in. Howdens now runs more than 500 automated daily checks and workflows through the platform, with routine tasks that once took up to an hour now completed in minutes, freeing the team to focus on cloud transformation rather than day-to-day maintenance.

Beyond individual customer outcomes, Avantra sits at a point in the SaaS ecosystem that is often overlooked: the operational foundation underneath large-scale enterprise resource planning environments. As more organisations move SAP into the cloud through SAP RISE, the reliability of that migration depends on foundational visibility and automation, not just the migration itself. The recent Avantra 26 release extends this further, adding AI-powered root cause analysis and expanded coverage across SAP BTP and security operations, built specifically to support the shift towards hybrid, cloud-first SAP landscapes at scale.

By building an agentless, AI-driven layer that works across both SAP and non-SAP systems, Avantra has helped shift an entire category of enterprise IT operations from reactive firefighting to proactive, self-service management. The wider effect is a change in how Basis and operations teams spend their time. Instead of consuming engineering hours on manual checks and alert triage, teams across Avantra customers have been able to redirect capacity towards transformation, compliance and innovation. As enterprise SAP environments continue to grow in complexity, that kind of operational scalability, without a corresponding rise in cost or headcount, is becoming a template for how mission-critical SaaS infrastructure should be run.
