What is Lucy & Yak?

Lucy & Yak is a square label with a circular soul; on a mission to bring consciousness to fashion by making clothes for every body that bring joy to people and the planet!

From the outset, Lucy & Yak’s circularity mindset has been about helping to keep clothes out of landfill. Today, part of that looks like creating the space and opportunity for customers to repair or return their pre-loved items. They also aim to create responsibly, using natural, organic, and recycled fibres and ensuring these are also responsibly sourced.

Lucy & Yak prides itself on reinvesting for good. One of the ways they do this is with regular support of Fior Di Loto, a charitable foundation mainly focused on providing an education and improving the living conditions of more than 700 girls living in the villages surrounding Pushkar, Rajasthan, in Northwest India.⁣ Each Black Friday the company donates a percentage of profits to Fior Di Loto.

Every year their goal is to uplift their community and platform those who don’t always get the one they deserve, spreading joy whilst helping to educate a wider audience. This year they sought to spotlight neurodivergent people in their community with their campaign ‘For Every Body and Every Mind’. A portion of profits from the limited edition collection, inspired by, and catered to, experiences of neurodivergent people, went to The ADHD Foundation, Neurodiversity Charity.

Is there a market for conscious fashion?

There is a growing market for conscious fashion as consumers become more aware of the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry. According to a report by Nielsen, 73% of millennials are willing to pay more for sustainable products. The global sustainable fashion market is projected to reach $8.25 billion by 2023. Lucy & Yak caters to this market by offering responsibly sourced and sustainable clothing options.

The startup exists because they believe in the importance of promoting sustainability in fashion and providing clothing options that align with the values of conscious consumers. Their focus on circularity, using natural and recycled fibers, and supporting charitable foundations demonstrates their commitment to making a positive impact.

“What makes Lucy & Yak unique is that we exist to spread joy. That means in creating clothes for as many bodies as we can and for people to feel seen and uplifted by them. We don’t follow trends, we create what feels right for our customers and products that can stand the test of time. Equally, we’ve always been fully committed to showing that you can build a growing business sustainably – both in the fabrics we use and our supply chains.”

– Lucy Greenwood, Co-Founder at Lucy & Yak
