What is Neko Health?

Neko Health is a Swedish preventative healthcare startup that uses body scans and AI to detect any health issues. The scanner uses over 70 sensors to track over 50 million data points within an hour, including skin, heart health, metabolism and more.

Once the scan has been done, the patient is able to go through their results with a doctor.

The startup aims to address the gap in healthcare by providing people with options to prevent issues before they crop up. Based on the premise that ‘prevention is better than cure’ – founders Daniel and Hjalmar believe that by empowering people with better knowledge about their bodies, they can catch any potential issues before it’s too late.

This is especially prevalent in the UK, where the NHS primarily focuses on treating people who are already sick, rather than preventing them getting there in the first place. This will become more problematic as the population ages and the number of people needing treatment becomes worse.

The company currently has centres in Stockholm and more recently in Marylebone London.

What Makes Neko Health Unique?

Backed by huge names in the startup world, Neko Health is unique for trying to make preventative care more accessible and data driven.

It’s full body scan is a unique technology that gathers millions of data points quickly – giving people better insights into areas into their physical health. By combining these data points with AI, Neko allows people to get more in-depth information about their health than ever before.

Priced at £299 per scan, and officially launched in London, it’s an appealing and relatively accessible price for those looking to invest in their physical health.

Is There A Market For Preventative Healthcare?

With countries like the UK battling with an ageing population and services like the NHS struggling to keep up, investing in tech that prioritises preventative care is definitely smart.

A report by WHO in 2016 estimated that 80% of heart disease, strokes and diabetes cases could be avoided through preventative healthcare. Not to mention the amount of people that may be able to have cancerous moles or skin tags removed in the early stages, before they require more aggressive treatments.

And it works. In Sweden, 14% of people who were scanned by Neko needed further care, and 1% found life-threatening conditions they were unaware of.

And people want it too. Neko currently has a 20,000-person waitlist, showing a strong demand for their services.
