About PocDoc
PocDoc is a digital diagnostics company making rapid screening for cardio, metabolic, and renal diseases quicker and more accessible for patients across the country.
Founded by Steve Roest, Dr Vladimir Gubala and Dr Kiran Roest in 2017, PocDoc has already raised a multi-million pound pre-A funding round to support product development and early-stage operations.
This year, the startup launched its “lab standard” ‘Healthy Heart Check’, which provides results in nine minutes through its approved testing kit and innovative digital app. The check measures a patient’s cholesterol levels, heart age, BMI score, and their risk of cardiovascular disease through Microfluidic Assay technology and cloud-based AI diagnostics.
The service has become the first of its kind to be integrated into the NHS app, meaning users’ results are automatically reflected on their official patient record. The test also provides access to follow-up treatment options where necessary, streamlining the screening process which typically takes weeks to complete. It represents a major opportunity to increase efficiencies and patient outcomes, with the NHS estimating that each digital health check could save 20 minutes of a doctor’s time*, freeing up thousands of GP appointments.
Rapid screening technologies like PocDoc’s could save the NHS an estimated £27 billion in reduced costs over the next ten years and, more importantly, save up to one million people annually from heart attacks and strokes.
PocDoc has been used by thousands of patients across the country to date. The service has been commissioned nationally, regionally and locally by the NHS in record time, and is also scaling out across retail pharmacies, such as Asda, nationwide. Results so far have been overwhelmingly positive, with 97% of users saying that they would recommend the Healthy Heart Check to family or friends who are concerned about their health. They also indicate the service is proving particularly effective at reaching ‘at risk’ groups, including those over 40s and those who are overweight.
But, crucially, the wider roll out of PocDoc will make screening more straightforward for anyone, anywhere, improving access to health checks on a national scale, with a view to global expansion.
CEO and Founder Steve Roest has described their current exciting growth trajectory as “just the beginning” predicting their app-based health check technology will have delivered screenings for “over 150 million people for cardiometabolic and renal diseases” by 2034.
