Valeria founded Fermata as an agricultural optimisation platform in 2019. The company develops the next-generation farming tool that provides precise plant monitoring in greenhouses and helps identify diseases through image analysis using AI-based technologies.
Valeria and her team have faced the problem of trust from the investors’ perspective. Worldwide more than $4 billion was invested in agritech by venture capitalists in 2018 and 2019 and by August of 2020, there was already $2.6 billion invested that calendar year.
In 2020 the company raised $3.8 million from the London-based fund Massa Innovations, and in 2021 the project and Valeria were included in the top-5 female-led ventures list in AgriFood Tech Israel.
For the future and Fermata’s growth, they have two directions for development at this point:
1. Their main product, Pest & Diseases system, is a solution built on an API-based platform for computer vision products in agriculture. They are now working closely on the development of more platform-based products with corporate partners.
2. Moreover, the team sees a considerable demand in integrating a Pest & Diseases product with the crop consultancy services to show how computer vision can become a remote greenhouse monitoring device for decision-making support systems in the enterprise.
When finding out that a farmers in the agricultural field were not ready to adopt a revenue-sharing model of split earnings, the Fermata team have learnt from previous mistakes.
