The Business: An interactive fitness platform giving members access to a whole host of instructor-led fitness classes.
Peloton offers a digital platform to help users access high-quality exercise classes from fitness professionals, all from the comfort of their homes. The startup have also created a fitness bike with a tablet attached just above its handle bars, connecting users to the Peloton platform, whereby they can take exercises classes specifically designed around the bike.
The company claim to make fitness “entertaining, approachable, effective, and convenient, while fostering social connections that encourage our Members to be the best versions of themselves.”
“An innovation company at the nexus of fitness, technology, and media, Peloton has reinvented the fitness industry by developing a first-of-its-kind subscription platform that seamlessly combines the best equipment, proprietary networked software, and world-class streaming digital fitness and wellness content, creating a product that its Members love.”
Peloton was founded in 2012, inspired by founder and CEO John Foley’s desire to make fitness more accessible to those with demanding schedules, as both he and his wife struggled to attend studio classes alongside their own busy lives. Inspired by this, Foley then decided to bring the studio to them, creating a platform where studio-quality fitness classes could be accessed from home.
Whilst COVID-19 has, as with most businesses, had an impact on Peloton – forcing them to close their showrooms and put a pause on the production of their live classes, the startup is one of a small group of companies to actually increase their forecasts. Peloton has reported a surge in interest, many customers looking to exercise at home whilst gyms closed and lockdown measures were implemented.
