About Hilla Shaviv
Hilla Shaviv, a biomedical engineer with degrees from Caltech and Tel Aviv University, has dedicated over two decades to medical device research and development. In 2007, she embarked on her entrepreneurial journey by founding her first company, GalMedics, aiming to develop a novel tampon designed to alleviate menstrual pain. Despite achieving promising clinical results, the company faced challenges and did not reach the market.
Undeterred, Hilla founded Gals Bio in 2016, focusing on revolutionizing menstrual care. The company’s flagship product, Tulipon, combines the convenience of tampons with the eco-friendliness of menstrual cups. Beyond menstrual management, Tulipon serves as a platform for health monitoring, enabling women to track biomarkers such as vaginal pH and menstrual flow from home.
Throughout her career, Hilla has faced significant challenges, including societal taboos surrounding menstruation and a lack of research in women’s health. These obstacles have made it difficult to find professionals with relevant experience and to secure necessary funding. Despite these hurdles, Hilla remains committed to advancing women’s health through innovation and education.
Looking ahead, Gals Bio plans to expand Tulipon’s diagnostic capabilities, offering personalized health solutions and fostering collaborations to enhance women’s health globally. Hilla also emphasizes the importance of education, aiming to dismantle taboos and misconceptions surrounding menstruation. Her dedication extends to addressing period poverty, advocating for accessible hygiene products for all women.
Hilla Shaviv’s journey exemplifies resilience and innovation, paving the way for advancements in women’s health technology.
