About Taxfyle
Taxfyle was founded in 2015 in Miami by Richard Lavina, Michael Mouriz, and Will Sahatdjian. Lavina, a CPA who left PwC to build the company, saw an outdated tax preparation industry ripe for a technology-driven model connecting taxpayers directly with licensed CPAs and Enrolled Agents on demand.
In its first years, Taxfyle had to prove that a marketplace model could work in a field built on long-term client relationships and manual processes. The team focused on building trust with both consumers and accounting professionals, while also convincing CPA firms that flexible, on-demand staffing was a viable way to scale during peak tax season. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated this shift, as remote work became the norm and demand grew for digital-first tax solutions.
Since then, Taxfyle has grown into a nationwide platform with more than 7,200 licensed CPAs, over 100,000 users, and partnerships with 150-plus CPA firms. The company has raised more than 50 million dollars in funding, including backing from Fuel Venture Capital, and has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in the US.
Taxfyle’s impact on the US ecosystem centers on modernising two sides of the tax industry at once. For everyday taxpayers and small businesses, it made professional tax help more accessible and affordable, removing the friction of finding and scheduling a CPA. For the accounting profession itself, Taxfyle created a new labor model, giving CPAs and EAs the ability to work independently and on their own schedule, similar to how gig platforms reshaped other service industries. This has been especially meaningful for accounting firms facing staffing shortages, allowing them to scale their workforce without the overhead of full-time hires.
More recently, Taxfyle has deepened its filing offering by building tax planning capabilities directly into it for partner firms, rather than treating planning as a separate product. This reflects the company’s broader vision, Built to Partner, which lets RIAs, fintechs, HR platforms, and other partners offer complete tax services, from planning through filing, without building that capability in-house.
Today, Taxfyle sits at the intersection of fintech and professional services, having helped move tax preparation from a seasonal, paper-heavy process into an on-demand digital service. By giving CPAs new ways to work and giving consumers and businesses faster access to professional tax help, Taxfyle has played a role in reshaping how tax work gets done across the country.
