- The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to disrupt the majority of industries, the music sector being no exception to this.
- With mass gatherings banned for the foreseeable future, musicians from across the industry have had to cancel or postpone performances.
With social distancing measures most likely to be with us for the foreseeable future, the prospects for live music performances is looking pretty bleak. However, as with many industries during the current health crisis, those within the music sector are starting to adapt, helping musicians to perform and audiences to enjoy, including the innovative marketplace, and our Startup of the Week – Encore Music.

Encore Music is a UK-based startup, offering a marketplace for people to book musicians for various different events. The platform was started by cellist James McAulay and pianist James King in 2014, and in its first year had acquired 2,500 members.
Demand for Encore grew, as did their technology to make the booking process simpler and more efficient than ever. Encore is now claimed to be “the UK’s fastest-growing marketplace for hiring outstanding musicians”, with customers reviewing musicians an average of 4.96 out of 5.
The platform offers a range of different performers to choose from, including singers, string quartets, jazz bands, function bands, bagpipers and more, all with no hidden fees and an average quote time of 30 minutes.
COVID-19’s Impact on Encore
Like many businesses, COVID-19 has greatly impacted the music events industry, bringing all sorts of performances to a grinding halt. However, rather than pausing operations, Encore has instead adapted to the current lockdown measures, now offering personalised musical message recordings, made by its pool of talented performers.
This has helped musicians to earn money, keep people entertained, and enable the company to continue working throughout the current health crisis.
Prices for personalised music messages start from only £15, with £2.50 from every video going to the NHS.
