Are Curved OLED Monitors Superior To Standard OLED Monitors?

OLED gaming monitors are all the rage. That being said, they always seem to be a bit behind. Curved OLED screens do have their drawbacks and a lot of people wonder if they are better than the standard OLED monitors that are out there. It’s Not A Television

A lot of people look at curved monitors as if they are TVs, and they judge them in the same way. If you look at the ASUS ROG PG42UQ then this has a fantastic display, and it is one of the best screens that money can buy. It’s just a TV but it is more expensive than the LG C2. This is understandable, but less so when you realise that it uses the same panel as the LG. You even have bigger options such as the LG UltraGear OLED alternative. Calling this a monitor just doesn’t make sense. You also have the surge in OLED gaming monitors, that offer OLED in one way or another. It’s not all about size though.

The AlienWare OLED screen is a monitor by design, purely because of the aspect ratio. The wide form factor is made for PCs at the end of the day. Sure, you can find some content through streaming services, and this is great for filling the streaming ratio, but most movies and TV shows are still fitting in with the standard ratio. If you are sitting at a desk then you may find it easy to hunt down movies that are 21:9 but at the end of the day, this doesn’t happen very often.

A lot of people, judging from reviews and comments on consumer websites, have been fans of ultrawide monitors for quite some time now and this is especially when you look at the MassDrop Vast which launched back in the day. The other only affordable option would be the MSI MEG 342C- and although this is a great entry point you will soon see that it has been out of stock since it launched. Why? Because it is a fantastic monitor that you can be sure to take advantage of when the time comes for you to make your purchase. It has specs that are great in every single way.

Now to break things down even more, it’s important to know that Dell is not just undercutting the competition. Alienware have enjoyed a year’s head start on the market and in that time, Dell have gone on to release the FreeSync version and they have gone on to cycle it through various sales as well. You will find it anywhere for around $1000 and this is great, to say the least.

Monitors for Casino Games and MMORPGs – Is Bigger Really Better?

So, a lot of people think that bigger is better, but this isn’t usually the case. Bigger monitors tend to be much more expensive when compared to smaller monitors even though sometimes, the screens are worse. It’s not just screen quality that you have to look out for, because you also have to look out for things such as the refresh rate as well. Alienware has a 165Hz refresh rate but at the end of the day if you opt for something a bit slower than this could only account for 2 milliseconds.

For this reason, going for a higher rate isn’t always better and going for bigger isn’t better unless you are willing to pay more to get better specs than a smaller monitor. If you are going for something that is just the same, then this will work against you and this is the last thing you want. If you want to play casino games, learn blackjack split rules or play MMORPGs, then you wouldn’t be putting yourself at a disadvantage by getting a monitor that is smaller.

USB Ports – How Many Do You Need?

So, it’s important to know that there are some smaller details to take note of. To start with, you have USB ports. Most monitors, including the LG displays that are out there, have some USB ports. Some of them, including the Samsung OLED screen, only actually have one single USB port. The extra parts are helpful, sure, but it is more the positioning that matters. You only have two near the HDMI and the Display Port.

If you want to connect some of the peripherals but the other two are under the front of the monitor, then this means you can swap some of your devices out. Sure, this might not seem like a big deal, but the stress of having to always reach behind the monitor is sometimes too much to deal with. You should probably ignore the USB ports that come on monitors for this very reason because most of the time, they are utterly useless.

Glossy Finish

There is a lot of hysteria out there regarding matte finishes. OLED displays are a touch overblown but that being said, there is some hysteria regarding matte finishes. OLED displays do pop more and if you look at diffusion, you will see that the reflections aren’t too bad. This is the case for the Alienware 34-OLED anyway. The other screens out there do tend to opt for a matte finish, but it doesn’t look half as impressive, so you need to keep this in mind if possible. If you chose to single out any of the individual elements of the Alienware 34-QD-OLED then it’s very easy for you to write everything off.

It’s a combination of features and the price makes it a very attractive display. Even after a year, it is still going strong. Sure, there are probably other elements that you can include but at the end of the day, it’s not hard to see why this monitor is reigning supreme. Of course, a lot of OLED TVs have tech that stops them from staying on the same screen for far too long, but that’s not the only benefit.

Since then, the design has improved and the risk of burn-in has reduced too. It is a major problem if you intend on using an OLED display as a computer monitor though. For comparison, burn-in was an issue for CRT monitors as well, and this is the primary reason why a lot of computers came with screensavers.

Low Brightness

A major limitation that you would get with an OLED TV is the fact that the brightness is super low. They are way brighter than LCD TVs though. You may notice that there is a drop in brightness if you are going for a standard LED TV but the benefits that come with the better picture quality are second-to-none.

Smart TVs

A lot of the OLED TVs on the market right now do come with smart functionality and this gives you the chance to stream any content you want with ease. They are thin though and this makes them far more functional when compared to more conventional televisions. At the end of the day, you should not use an OLED TV as a monitor because it has a monumental risk of burn-in. Certain parts of the PC will always stay the same and this could include the task bar.

What’s A Laser TV?

The term laser TV refers to a projection that offers a very short-throw distance. Additionally, it tends to be way bigger than bulb-lit projectors and you can use them in very bright rooms. If you want to get the brightness and the quality of a curved OLED but you don’t want to worry about the various downsides to making this kind of investment, then why not think about making this investment?
