About Susie and Tropic Skincare
Susie appeared on the seventh series of The Apprentice. Despite coming in third place, she secured investment from Lord Alan Sugar for her company, Tropic Skincare, which has been named the fastest growing skincare brand in the UK.
Susie Ma started Tropic Skincare informally when she was just 15. In her free time, she sold body scrubs in Greenwich market to help her mother to pay the bills. She says her recipe was inspired by her upbringing of Tropical North Queensland, as well as a recipe from her grandmother, a medicinal chemist and toxicologist.
After graduating, Susie spent some time working in investment banking. This experience was what made her realise that her true calling was her skincare company, and she put all her efforts there. After Susie’s season of The Apprentice, Tropic launched its Social Selling Business Platform with 400 founding sales people.
Tropic Skincare now employs over 100 internal staff, as well as having over 12,000 Tropic Ambassadors throughout the UK. These are registered representative who sells Tropic’s products directly to customers, and make money on commission.
Although Tropic Skincare began as a single product, it has since expanded to sell skincare, body care, hair care, sun care, and tanning serums. They now sell products for women and men, and introduce new ranges bi-annually. Tropic Skincare now carries over 275 award-winning products.
