Lukango will offer comprehensive cover through two products, Fix and Flex. A fixed price for customers who want to know what they are going to pay upfront so they can plan their business finances, or a flexible price option designed to adapt to the growth of each business, so they pay only what they need to. Lukango demystifies and simplifies insurance, making it more accessible through our easy-to-understand language, tailored product design and CX, and lack of confusing jargon traditionally associated with small business insurance.
CEO Joanne Safo founded Lukango in 2021 after noticing the need to make insurance inclusive, clear and fair for today’s small businesses. This segment often goes underserved in the insurance space because individual premiums are low and they are difficult to reach. In addition, as a brown, working-class female in the insurance industry, Joanne has always been a visible minority. Insurance is one of the worst-performing industries regarding diversity, equity and inclusion – Joanne is a champion of diversity and inclusion and Lukango is working to change that alongside co-founders Selina Bilton and Mark Dennis and the wider team.
Lukango is preparing to launch imminently with initial partnerships with major insurance companies. The company has already won numerous accolades, including the second Black Girl Fest Launchpad Programme entrepreneur initiative top grant of £20k, and aims to change the face of the insurance industry. Joanne Safo was recognised as one of the Standout 45 in the Innovate Finance Women in Fintech Powerlist 2022 and featured in the top 20 of TechRound’s Top 50 BAME Under 50 Entrepreneurs 2022.
