ClimbCon hits ‘sweet spot’ with Lord Sugar and Piers Morgan

The first ClimbCon event took place on Friday 28th June and a packed out crowd enjoyed some strong business inspiration at The Sofitel Hotel in Heathrow.

The event was fronted by Mark Wright, The 2014 Apprentice Winner and founder of Climb Online (position 20 on theTechRound100)

Speakers included Piers Morgan, Lord Sugar, Robin Deller (Imagine Cruising), Michael Howard (Maris Interiors), Lyndsay Morgan (number 2 at Climb Online and judge of TechRound100) and last year’s Apprentice winner Sian Gabbidon.

The main event saw Piers Morgan and Lord Sugar go head-to-head, talking about business, politics, Brexit, their backgrounds and a cheeky dig wherever possible. Each comeback was wittier than the next, with Piers making comments about Sugar’s recent cosmetic treatment likely to raise some eyebrows and his questionable title as a ‘billionaire’ – when compared to the likes of Rupert Murdoch or Donald Trump.

My personal favourite was the entrance of Lord Sugar, with the sound of hip hop music like he was about to enter a ring to fight Anthony Joshua:

Morgan had some strong advice about tackling London’s knife crime problem and asked for stronger leadership in the UK government. He also highlighted the lacklustre attitudes of millennials including ‘the bunch of Vegans who have flocked to Glastonbury’s dairy farm this weekend’ – and highlighted that ‘there is less poverty, crime, war and hunger than ever before. So stop complaining and get on with life!’

Questions from the audiences were welcomed with Sugar responding to what job he would do today, as ‘something to do with importing or exporting electronics, you can’t start manufacturing from your home garage like you used to.’

Cheers from the audience came from a former rejected applicant of Lord Sugar’s Amvest Scheme asked: “So when are you free to sit down and discuss my business plan?”

As an attendee, this event had it all, personal greetings from all the Climb Online staff, excellent sound and visuals from all seats, strong air conditioning and great business talks from different entrepreneurs and perspectives.
