Digital nomads can now travel the world stress-free with Musk’s Starlink dish. Starlink is under SpaceX, and they bring internet services to users in a different way: you’re able to use their services even in remote areas or areas with weak signal.
The company has officially announced their launch of the Starlink Mini. This is essentially a more compact version, compared to the previous Starlink dish. The payment plan is convenient for travellers, with a “pay-as-you-go” plan, where a monthly fee is charged, with the option to pause or unpause at any time. Everything comes in a kit and on top of it being waterproof, it also melts snow and sleet, and can withstand heavy rain and winds.
This is a solution for backpackers, and travellers who walk through extreme conditions either for work or for leisure. From a safety perspective, the Mini makes sure there will always be a reliable internet connection, and allows access to emergency services in a crisis.
The Starlink App
The Starlink app makes it easy to manage your internet connection. With it, you can pinpoint the perfect spot for your dish to get the best signal, set up your equipment, and spot any obstacles that might block your service.
It also lets you check your Wi-Fi, keep tabs on how your internet is performing, see which devices are using your network, solve any connection problems, and get in touch with customer support if you need extra help.
On X, the Starlink account posted a video of someone setting up the device, and testing the internet speed. The speed test shows an impressive 170 Mbps, with Starlink promising speeds of over 100 Mbps at any moment.

On X, the account also shared an instructional video on how to set the Mini up. Start by downloading the Starlink App and use it to scan the QR code from your kit’s packaging. Start by choosing a place with a clear view of the sky to avoid signal blockages from trees or buildings.
Place the Starlink Mini on a flat surface using the kickstand or mount it higher using the included pipe adapter for better elevation. Then connect the device to power with the supplied cable. For internet access, select the ‘STARLINK’ network on your device, and set a password through the app for security.
You might want to adjust the position of your Starlink Mini as recommended by the app to achieve the best satellite connection. If you encounter issues, the app has troubleshooting tips, or you can contact customer support for assistance.
Pricing And Availability In The UK
The device costs $599, and can be ordered from the Starlink website, currently only for US users. We’re curious to see where the device becomes available next, and whether it will become available in the UK.
