Meet The Judges
Pete Hanlon, CTO of Moneypenny

Pete Hanlon is CTO of Moneypenny, the leading outsourced communications company that answers calls, live chat and digital communications for thousands of businesses across the UK and the US. Pete has previously been CTO at Moneysupermarket for six years and CTO at Autotrader where he worked for 10 years.
Mina Samaan, Principal at MMC Ventures
- Mina Samaan is a Principal at MMC Ventures, one of the UK’s and Europe’s leading investors for early startups – with a portfolio including Gousto, Bloom & Wild and Pact Coffee.
Collette Allen – Client Services Director at SmartSearch
- Collette Allen is Client Services Director at SmartSearch, the UK’s leading anti-money laundering SaaS platform and Queens Award for Enterprise Innovation winner. Collette joined SmartSearch as a Senior Support Specialist in 2013, and within two years and worked her way up to head of Client Services. She has been Client Services Director since July 2020.
Stephen Page, CEO and Founder of SFC Capital

A veteran of the software industry with nearly 40 years of experience as an Entrepreneur, Investor and Fund Manager, Stephen has founded and exited a number of software companies including DataEase – a global DBMS company – and Sapphire, Inc. Stephen founded Startup Funding Club (SFC) in 2012, he is a founder freeman of the Guild of Entrepreneurs and an ambassador for the club Home Grown (sister club of the excellent Home House).

Notable Mentions
The TechRound team have been so impressed with the calibre of candidates and it is truly remarkable what the UK has to offer in terms of SaaS – and ultimately how far SaaS has come in the last decade.
We saw a number of quality candidates who are using SaaS technology to make life simpler and also address real problems in the organisation and society.
We saw some real growth of collaborative tools and how these businesses have emerged during the pandemic (Meeow, Sideways) and how companies are using technology to be more visual and connect with other people (Vizolution, Claro Money and How Now).
Interestingly, we saw some growth in legal and lawtech products (Resolv) and the continued dominance of accounting software (Xero).
The team was also delighted to see health and wellness included in the list of candidates, using technology to improve wellbeing (Well Buddy and Pay Captain).
Feedback From The Judges
With hundreds of entries, we are very grateful to the candidates who wrote very clear and concise write-ups that were easy to read through and judge effectively. The judges took time to review each entry in detail and also look at the website of each candidate. Sadly in some cases, websites had error pages, were not updated or were not transactional – and particularly with SaaS, this is something you might look for.
Overall, we were extremely impressed and the TechRound team is delighted to share another exciting list that will celebrate the hard work and innovation of British and Global entrepreneurs and provide inspiration to the startup community.
Don’t forget, TechRound competitions will always consider every type of candidate and funding is not a necessary requirement. We are always looking to reward hard-work and innovation – so do not hesitate to apply in the future. We are excited to be launching the InsurTech 51 later this month and our notorious TechRound100 this summer!
