Eczema is an incredibly common skin condition in the UK, believed to affect around 1 in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults.
Also known as atopic dermatitis, it’s a condition that causes the skin to become dry, itchy and irritated.
Whilst it’s unclear exactly what causes eczema, it can be a very uncomfortable condition for those that suffer from it.
Can Eczema Be Cured?
Unfortunately, there isn’t currently a cure for eczema. Instead, doctors suggest managing the condition through skincare products, light therapy and dietary changes to help reduce inflammation.
Because eczema is a skin condition, doctors usually work with patients to help provide the best treatment for their individual case. This can involve things like soothing the skin, keeping it moisturised and trying to work out what the triggers are to keep it under control.
Luckily, a number of startups are also on a mission to help make eczema care easier for those that suffer from it.
Let’s take a look at some of them…
Cosi Care
Cosi Care is a skin company that has created itch relief products designed to allow people to scratch themselves, but without breaking the skin.
Their range of products, which include metal scratch rollers, scalp scratchers and anti-itch clothes, help people get the relief they need without further damaging their skin. This is particularly useful for those with eczema who are struggling with inflammation.
Triveni Bio
Triveni Bio is a company that uses genetic data to find new cures to inflammatory and immunological disorders.
As part of this, the company has just raised $115 million in Series B funding to help drive its first drug, which is a potential eczema treatment, into human trials.
If successful, this could help combat eczema at its core, allowing doctors to treat the cause of the disease, rather than just the side effects.
Eczemaless
A big part of eczema care is understanding what triggers might affect inflammation.
Eczemaless is an app that allows people to track and manage their eczema, using AI. This can better help those suffering with eczema understand and manage their triggers, get insights into regularity of flare ups and track treatments.
That way, it’s easier to understand what might cause flare ups and be able to make better decisions during times of inflammation.

Tiny Health
It’s widely believed that diet can have a huge impact on eczema. Tiny Health is a gut health test for mums and babies that can help them better understand their microbiome and identify potential inflammation triggers.
In fact, the Tiny Health Gut Test reports the Eczema Biomarker, which shows whether a baby has an eczema microbiome. This can help parents start tracking triggers earlier on, helping to keep the condition under wraps.
Eczema Honey Co.
Eczema can be harsh on the skin, and with many treatments including chemicals, it can be hard to find an option that is truly soothing.
Eczema honey a company that offers soothing creams using clean ingredients that are non-toxic food grade and safe. This way, people can get more natural alternatives to chemical creams to help treat their eczema.
ECZEMA CARE+
The Eczema Care App was designed and developed by the Pierre Fabre Eczema Foundation that allows people to assess the severity of their eczema by calculating their PO-SCORAD index or using photos and AI.
Once the information has been uploaded, the app is able to help provide treatment suggestions, monitor the progression of the condition and provide advice to help moving forwards.
