About Dr Nayan and Avegen Health
Avegen is an innovative technology company that helps health organisations build transformative digital health products that empower these patients to take control of their own health. Avegen has created a product development platform called HealthMachine™, which enables health providers and pharma companies to build, deploy and scale impactful digital health products quickly.
Products built on Avegen’s HealthMachine™ platform have been used by over 1 million people globally, across 14 countries. These include products to reduce maternal mortality, improve mental health, reduce recurrence of myocardial infarction, treat paranoia and improve treatment outcomes for individuals with long-term conditions like tuberculosis, HIV, pulmonary arterial hypertension.
1 in 4 patients are living with long term conditions. From understanding a recent diagnosis to recognising and recording symptoms, Avegen’s products enable patients to take ownership of their condition using safe, engaging and personalised support.
Dr Nayan Kalnad came up with the idea for Avegen when he was working to improve care delivery for HIV-positive patients in India. He realised that the right tech could widen access and transform the quality of care these patients were receiving.
He teamed up with co-founder Neeraj Apte – who brings over 20 years of experience in software development to the team – to create Avegen and build HealthMachine™.
Nayan and Neeraj, along with their team, bootstrapped the business from day one – building it into a 60-strong team which now stretches across multiple continents, without any VC capital. This has allowed them to iterate their model and build the strong foundations needed for long-term growth.
The journey has not been without challenges. This included having to pivot away from their original idea a few years ago after discovering that it wasn’t scalable or able to help as many people as it needed to. Pivoting a bootstrapped business can be extremely tough and the whole team worked hard to make it through the transition and thrive on the other side.
Over the next year, the team at Avegen will continue to innovate, build and deploy patient-centric digital health products on HealthMachine – their modular, cloud-based platform – quickly and compliantly.
Since day one, Avegen has been committed to ensuring everyone across the world can access the support they need to live a healthier, empowered life. This commitment drives them forward to this day.
