About Rest Less
Rest Less is a digital community and advocate for people in their 50s, 60s and beyond. Responding to major demographic shifts driven by an ageing population, they launched at the start of 2019 with a mission to help their members live their lives to the fullest. In just under three years, they have grown their membership base to 700,000 members and they are on target to reach one million members before their third birthday.
They secured seed funding of £3 million in late 2019 and series A funding of £6.1 in H1 2021. Their focus has since been on growing their tech team to support the development of the platform, launching an app and launching other new products and services. The app has had more than 35,000 downloads in the first 10 weeks of launch and is currently rated 4.7 stars on the App Store.
The pandemic was a challenging time for Rest Less. In March 2020, they were a team of 14 with a heavy focus on the jobs sector, targeting age inclusive employers to advertise on their site in order to reach their members. They were growing fast and during the first week of March 2020, they had a 10% week on week growth in traffic and more than 28,000 jobs on their site. When lockdown was announced later that month, jobs on their site fell to 8,000 and traffic collapsed as people focused on getting through the pandemic rather than a career move.
Despite those difficult, uncertain weeks, they had a clear sense of purpose as they realised that there had never been a greater need amongst their audience. They created new Money content, built a course marketplace in a matter of weeks – home to over 70,000 courses, many of which are free – enabling people to upskill, retrain or find a new hobby during lockdown. They also saw incredible levels of engagement with their mental health content.
Today, Rest Less offers content, guidance and resources across Work and Careers, Learning, Money and Pensions, Health, Hobbies and Activities, Relationships and more. They have their own online Community with nearly 40,000 members connecting with each other virtually on a range of different topics.
They are passionate about providing a voice for their members. Since launch, they have secured almost 2,000 pieces of coverage, the most notable being the front page of a national newspaper as well as a mention in a House of Lords debate about the gender pay gap being at its widest for people in their 50s.
In the year ahead, their focus is on growing their membership and delivering more value and a wider range of services to their members. With their investors’ expertise in fintech, they are working on two exciting Financial Services projects at the moment which they hope to launch by the end of this year. These will deliver much needed advice and support to the people who need it most.
