Business: App enabling people to rescue unsold food that otherwise would have been thrown in the bin by retailers.

Currently, over 2,000 retailers sell their surplus food through the site, including firms such as the Department of Coffee & Social Affairs, Aubaine and Deliciously Ella.

The Swedish startup is not only available in over 150 towns and cities across Sweden but also in Paris and London, with over 500,000 app users worldwide.

How does it work? If you are looking to buy food, all you need to do is download the app and pick which unsold food from restaurants, cafes and restaurants takes your interest. Once selected, you can purchase the food for half price, and then pick it up as a takeaway.

Karma was founded in 2016, and to date the company have manage to rescue a staggering 295 tonnes of food through their innovative app. The team’s ultimate mission is to make sure that excellent food never goes to waste, and they want to help create a shift towards a more sustainable society for everyone. It seems that so far, Karma is well on its way to doing just that.
